Hello, my name is Dr Tamara Vaughan, I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I have over 10 years' experience facilitating therapeutic groups, offering specialist assessments and individual therapy sessions in the NHS, charity and private sector. At present, in addition to my private practice, I work as a Senior Counselling Psychologist in the NHS and as a Guest lecturer to a number of postgraduate programmes in London.
I am passionate about people’s mental health and well-being; whether that be working together to help you recover from psychological, emotional and relational difficulties or, ensuring that you are maintaining your general psychological well-being.
Tamara has been an excellent therapist. She has supported me from my first session and used a variety of techniques to best suit my needs. It has been a pleasure working with her.
For many of us, the decision to come to therapy can be a daunting one. Sometimes, we have been feeling overwhelmed, hopeless or distressed for a long time and although we think we know what the problem is, we are unsure about how to address it. Alternatively, we may have simply been living with a sense that something isn’t quite right and not know where to begin.
Whatever your reasons for coming to therapy, I will always offer a warm, non-judgemental and compassionate therapeutic space in which you can talk about your experiences openly.
Drawing on my skills and expertise in psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural therapies, I will offer flexible and bespoke support that allows you to gain a greater insight into your specific and individual difficulties
We will work collaboratively to ensure that your therapeutic needs and goals are always being met so that you can feel genuinely heard and empowered throughout the process.
Expertise & Areas of Interest
Our relationships provide us with templates which we carry with us. If we are lucky, our relationships can provide us with safety, comfort and a sense of meaning. However, many of us have relationships which are complex, confusing or distressing. This may lead to us creating unhelpful relational patterns which cause us to feel stuck and which may be the cause of our distress. This may also include difficult relationships with our family members, which result in emotional and physical estrangements. And, in societies which often view 'family' as sacrosanct, being or becoming estranged can be especially difficult to talk about.
Whether it’s your relationships with your family, romantic partners, colleagues or friends, I will provide you with a warm and non-judgemental space in which to reflect on these experiences honestly and openly, to better understand your relational patterns and difficulties and to assist you in developing healthy and meaningful relational patterns.
Tamara was an absolute pleasure to work with. I felt wholly supported by her throughout the process and she really helped me to develop emotional resilience. Thank you so much!
**NOTE** all sessions are currently being facilitated digitally (by zoom).
Sessions take place once weekly unless otherwise agreed upon. Our first session will be an assessment session and will act as an opportunity for me to gather some more information about you and what you're hoping to gain from therapy; it will also be a chance for us to make a decision about whether I am the right therapist for you.
Counselling and Psychological therapy (50 minutes - the 'therapeutic hour'): £100
EMDR (60-75 minutes): £125-160
Sessions are payable by BACS on/by the day of our appointment. I am also a registered member with a number of private medical insurers. If you wish to pay for your sessions in advance, I offer a 10% discount (on full rate sessions), when a block of six sessions is purchased.
